Hi,
Why we seek extension, it will of no use. Even if extension is done than the clients who are in the habit of coming on last date will disappear now and will come couple of days before the last date. Unless and untill there are some happening due to which there is difficulty in completing the acconts / audit timely, then its a different issue. Everyone was aware of festivals at the end of September 2009, so planning was required before.
The ICAI has made an application to the CBDT for the extention of the due date u/s 139(1). as the application is made by ICAI then it is expected that there will be a positive reply from the CBDT.

Due date for filing Income Tax Return been extended by one month in Pune, Sangli and Kolhapur
The govt. today extended the date for filing of income tax returns by a month in three districts of Maharashtra.”The due date of filing income tax returns, due by September 30, 2009, of tax payer assessed to income tax in the districts of Pune, Sangli and Kolhapur, has been extended to October 31, 2009,”the Central Board of Direct taxes said in a statement.The CBDT, however, did not give any reason for the extension.
Official notification in this regard will be issued in due course, it said.
