UPDATE # 1 : Change in Rate of CENVAT
1. General Rate of CENVAT is 16% but the same has been reduced to 8% w.e.f. 24-02-2009 by way of exemption notifications.
2. Up to 14-12-2008 the general rate of CENVAT is 14%.
3. From 15-12-2008 to 23-02-2009 the rate is 10%, and
4. From 24-02-2009 the rate is 8%.
If the rate is given in the question then the given rate will be applicable but if no rate is given then the above prescribed rates will be applicable according to the date of removal.
For example if the goods are removed on 31-12-2008 then the rate of CENVAT is 10%.
UPDATE #2 : Change in certain rates in CENVAT Credit Rules
The rates mentioned in the CENVAT Credit Rules in the rule no. 6 were 10% and 8% for the Manufacturer of goods and Provider of output services respectively. The same has been changed w.e.f. 06-07-2009 to 5% and 6%. But for November exam one should proceed with old rates however new rates should also be mentioned in the bracket.
The same is confirmed by a renowned faculty of IDTL.
