Hi,

I need a clarification on Excise duty exemption to STP units.

We have been awarded a sub contract to undertake interior work (supply and installation) for an STPI unit through principal contractor, who is non STP unit.

As a sub contractor, when we procure any excisable material from the supplier for the purpose of STP units , whether the supplier is exempted from charging excise duty, being this supply is to STP unit ?. If yes, what are the documents that will be required to claim the excise duty benefit by the supplier.

Pl clarify.

unless commissioner of STP zone does not give any notification specificaly to the unit in STP zone, no benefit is available, here we have to point to say that if the exemption is available to them in future by fulfiling the obligation , then they may claim rebate, but to avail any type of exemption in vat/excise/service tax, they need notification or letter from STP commissioner in their favor with details of procedure to be maintained, and they will follow the same, and handover a copy of same to supplier, contractor in order to avail exemption if any.
