Excess goods returned from port

Dear Expert

We are dealing in product in which final product contains moisture. In case of one of the customer the goods were to be delivered at the port and from there it was the responsibility of the buyer to carry the goods through barge to its work place. The consignment was fixed for predetermined quantity. The material dispatched from our factory (through excise invoice) was slightly more (around 10 mt more) than the said quantity and hence was returned back to the factory from the port.

The final quantity is decided on the basis of bill of lading issued at the time of sailing of vessel and hence chances of excess material dispatched from the factory is quite high.

Pl note that unlike typical case of sales return in this case no “purchase return excise invoice” was issued by the customer.

Pl advice the excise treatment for the said return of goods.

Whether we need to inform he excise department for this by a letter.

 Regards

We assume that export consignment is covered under Excise invoice and ARE-1, and the same is submitted to R/O within 24 hours of clearance under sealf sealing ( in case of excise sealing, the copies remain with R/O), then the facts of excess goods are well known to R/O.

inform him the excess goods quantity returned by customs and ask him to make suitable remarks in DSA.
