I have received arrears on salary amounting to Rs.336000/- on 25.8.15 relating to FYs 2012-13 to 2014-15. Out of total arrears a sum of Rs.90000/- has been paid arrears towards House Rent Allowance. I had submitted Rent Receipt during these years and have got exemption for the Actual House Rent Allowance Paid to me. Please advise whether the arrears of House Rent Allowance paid to me during the current year are exempt from payment of Income Tax or not and can I claim relief under section 89 (1) during current year . I have requested to my employer for giving me relief u/s 89 (1) for the previous years as I would fall under the lower slab.

Just ask for form 10E from your employer. He will mention in form 16 also the same. Then you can claim this to your new return u/s 89 which you will file next year. HRA or any other allowance will be calculated retrospectively as per your rent paid or other deductions.
ATM option is still not activated or you can say it is still in process by itd to release it. Such option will be notified at a future date. Then it will be available for use
