Error while filling ITR 3

Dear All,

While filling ITR 3 i am getting the following error :
1) profit before tax as per P&L A/c in schedule BP is not equal to the sum of [profit before tax] plus [net profit (no account case)] plus [presumptive income] as per P&L a/c.

2)In schedule BP balance amount is not equal to the sum of individual value.

Please make me know how to resolve these problems.

Thank you.

The error messages you are facing in ITR 3 usually occur when there is a mismatch between the financial data entered across different parts of the return—specifically between Schedule P&L (Profit and Loss) and Schedule BP (Business Profession).

Here is how you can resolve both errors:

1. Error: Profit before tax as per P&L A/c in schedule BP is not equal to the sum...

This error triggers because the IT portal attempts to cross-verify the Profit Before Tax (PBT) mentioned in Schedule BP against what you have entered in Schedule P&L.

  • The Cause: You likely have entered business income in multiple sections (e.g., normal books of accounts, no-account cases like regular retail trading without books, or presumptive taxation under Section 44AD/44ADA) but the consolidated total in Schedule BP, Item 1 does not match the sum of these parts.

  • The Solution:

    1. Open Schedule P&L and calculate the total sum of:

      • Net Profit from regular accounts.

      • Net Profit from "No Account" cases (if any).

      • Presumptive Income entered under Section 44AD/44ADA/44AE.

    2. Go to Schedule BP (Computation of income from business or profession).

    3. Ensure that the starting field (usually row 1 or the relevant auto-populated/editable field for Net Profit) matches this exact sum. If it hasn't updated automatically, look for a "Compute" or "Confirm" button at the bottom of the schedules to refresh the calculations.

2. Error: In schedule BP balance amount is not equal to the sum of individual value

This is a mathematical breakdown error within Schedule BP itself.

  • The Cause: This happens when adjustments (additions or deductions under tax laws like depreciation disallowances, section 43B adjustments, etc.) do not align correctly with the final computed balance.

  • The Solution:

    1. Open Schedule BP and carefully review each sub-section line-by-line.

    2. Check if you manually modified any auto-calculated fields.

    3. Clear the data in the problematic sub-sections, click save, and re-enter the figures.

    4. Scroll to the very bottom of Schedule BP and click the "Compute Income" or "Confirm" button. This forces the system utility to recalculate the totals and mathematically balance the schedule.

💡 Quick Summary

To fix these errors, ensure that your total net profit from all sections of Schedule P&L perfectly matches the starting net profit figure in Schedule BP. Afterward, open Schedule BP, verify that all line items add up correctly, and click "Compute/Confirm" at the bottom to force the utility to update and eliminate the rounding or calculation bugs.
