Eligible directorship

The Advocates Act and Bar Council of India Rules provide that an advocate is not prohibited from becoming a director in a company but he should not perform any executive function of the company. Thus, an advocate can be a Non-Executive or Independent Director of the company but cannot be Executive Director of the company. An advocate is free to draw the sitting fees provided to independent directors for his directorship in the company.
