E-filing - post office saving bank ifsc code?

Efiling 29999 views 14 replies

My query is regarding IFSC Code for Post Office Saving Bank. I tried to find everywhere including visiting the bank but they say they have no IFSC Code. Now as per the new income tax form I have to mention the total accounts held, the bank, account number and IFSC Code. If I do not enter IFSC Code it does not allow me to submit the form. So what to do incase I have Post Office Saving Bank, how can I do my efiling?

Thanks.

I had tried that code, but it says invalid IFSC Code. I also checked with the local post office as well as a couple of accountants and they have no clue on this. They say Post Office Bank does not have any IFSC Code.

Not all banks have IFSC code but for those cases there is a code we have to put into . I am not able to recall that code but you can try calling at 1800 4250 0025 (Customer care of Tax department)

Once you get that, kindly post it here

There is a notification also but thats for foregin CO not having account in Indian bank

I am 100% sure that around  2 years ago there was such a similar thread and there that code was mentioned. You can try searching it on our site

Give the name of a Nationalised bank for refund. This bank account you need to skip bcoz you dont know IFSc and ur post office bank also dont  know it. Other accounts you should give where IFSc code is known. But file return on time. This is important.

This is not for refund. According to the new income tax form you have to declare all bank accounts that you have. I am not able to enter the Post Office Savings Bank account because there is no IFS code and it wont take any random code there and generates error while submitting so either I have to omit that account or I have to enter it with correct IFSC code else bank name is also not generated.

Did you called ?

Skip that account and fill the rest. File ITR by checking twice thrice and upload after satisfied that all is Ok.

Yes all are suggesting so if I dont get a clear reply may be will do the same. Thanks for your help.

Hello

I do not have much idea but try https://www.banks-ifsc-codes.com as they have almost every bank ifsc code.

Even Im facing the same prob, In my case, my client has deposited the old notes in the post office savings bank account. And i feel it is important to disclose this information to the department. but unable to do the same, as IFSC is not available for the post office savings bank.

You may input the account number of post office and mentioned IFSC code of any bank like SBI.

Here you can find the all banks of post office saving bank IFSC code

Banks IFSC Code, Branch IFSC Code, MICR Code, IFSC Code Of All NEFT, RTGS Enabled Bank Branches

Also, try cracking the code from the below mentioned information:

IFSC Code Pattern

In an IFSC code, the first four characters are alphabets which denote the bank name. Hence, the IFSC code of each branch of the same bank will begin with the same four letters. The fifth character is a zero.

The remaining six characters are digits or numbers which denote the branch code. This is the part which makes an IFSC code unique.

There are two types of savings accounts in post office. One is the regular post office savings bank (PSB) and the other a digital savings bank account of Indian Post Payments Bank (IPPB). Here IPPB will have IFSC which is IPOS0000001.
