For building projects in Telangana exceeding 20,000 sq meters, an Environmental Clearance (EC) certificate is indeed required. The constructed area is considered for this criteria, not the total project area.¹ According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notification, construction projects exceeding 20,000 sq meters but not exceeding 50,000 sq meters are exempt from obtaining prior environmental clearance.² However, projects exceeding 50,000 sq meters require environmental clearance. It's essential to note that while the constructed area is the key factor, other environmental considerations may still apply. To ensure compliance, it's recommended to consult with environmental experts or relevant authorities in Telangana. Additionally, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006, outlines the procedures for obtaining environmental clearance. The notification categorizes projects based on their potential environmental impact, and the clearance process varies accordingly.³
