It is no news that the ICAI's recent flip flops with respect to the November examinations held in 2009 has left a bad taste amongst the majority of the student community. The delay in declaration of results and also the poor pass percentage amongst Final Students has left a crowd of dismay and disgruntled in the current scenario. A lot of students across the country in online forums like Caclub have expressed a willingness to show solidarity and protest against the current actions from the Institute.

Unfortunately many students have shown disinterest and retorted that CA students are professional students and hence should not protest as it puts us and the ICAI in poor light. Does not the ICAI's recent actions show itself in poor light amongst us?? Last time we were well aware of the consequences in the delay of results. Many deserving candidates were left in the lurch.

The actions of ICAI can have adverse effects on the credibility of its repuatation of being the 2nd largest professional organisation. We are not telling that we should come in the streets and protest, we are not telling we should break window panes of ICAI premises.

Do you not protest when your client tries to cover a mistake, error or fraud? One can protest in the most rational and reasonable way which will portray the difficulties of CA students and also highlight the harsh decisions and measures being taken by the current incumbent officials.

We should write letters to editorials of Financial dailies like Economic Times, Businessline, Business Standard, Mint, etc. highlighting the hardships the PROFESSIONAL STUDENT community is facing.

Professionalism does not mean sit quiet and allow being to surrender to the money minting exercise the incumbent officials are taking. It is also not surprising to find that premiere CA coaching institutions have also supported ICAI while approving the poor pass percentage. Through maligned numbers they show us a statistics and claim that 85% of the final students who wrote the exams were NON SERIOUS Candidates. The ICAI in recent years though collects a hefty fees for books but does not give updated books in INCOME TAX for students and ammendements in other subjects. Students naturally have to depend on endorsed views of the Coaching Institutions to purchase costly books.

ICAI though shows its books have copyright allows Professionals like B. Sarvannaprasath to plagiarise its entire text books and RTP and also allows it to charge at a higher price

well well i 1000% agree with you. Whatever you have written about books is true. We as a student do suffer. What i think is since there is no strong competitor for ICAI in India, the institute is quiet careless about its student. Students are future of ICAI. ICAI without students will be nothing; though this is not going to happen.

Our only hope is some reputed international institutes comes in India and drags ICAI to its feet then only we have some hopes, otherwise i don't think that ICAI will ever change.

I completely agree with Arijit Ghosh. Even I am disappointed by my final result this time, specially when my papers went not just well but VERY WELL. I feel helpless and consider that v all r at the mercy of ICAI...

Recently they have come out with few notifications like raising the attempts 4 old course, all compulsory questions and 50 % passing marks in indivisual subject which will b in effect from may 2010, which make the course even more difficult than ever b4. How can they do so in last week of our exams ?????? WTF..

I strogly believe that v shud do something 2 show our resentment. They have no right to do this 2 deserving candidates. They need 2 understand that its not just about failing an exam ..its about failing 2 reach our destination which v can only c..its about gathering again ourselves 2 face the same hilltop like books ..its about going thru same boring text again & again ...moreover after going thru d same stuff again and again , interest level also goes down 2 a vast extent.

I wish i can get few students and can anyhow lets face the Officials 1 on 1 ask the reasons 4 letting ur suffer so much..V at least deserve 2 c our copies ..All the other exmas have the provision of revealing the copies of students then y not v can c??

And to all those who surrender 2 d ugliest result by ICAI & say that v shud not write foul words against them, as it puts ICAI into poor light , then I say that u r disrespecting ourselves by surrendering to d WRONG..perhabs no1 has gutts 2 come out with their words..And if passing CA exam was tough in nov 2009 than trust its gonna b eve more tough in may 2010 , when v need 2 score 50 % in each subject ...!

All i wanna say is that ..lets unite and fight 4 our positive result ..I dont wanna appear again 4 d exam..!

Yes Neha I agree with you totally. Though I am not aggrieved party, but if institute continues to behave in such a manner then one day I will be in your shoes so I really think something has to be done to show resentment. If ICAI claims that they are BEST and their policies regarding evaluation of papers are unquestionable then they shouldn’t have any problem in revealing our answer sheets to us.

There exists something called as WICASA - Western India Chartered Accountant Students Association (Well if you are not from western region then please check student association from you region. E.g. if you are from south then you have SICASA). You make try to get help from them. Though my personal opinion is; such associations will not do anything.

But at least we can try to bring some suffered students together. If students don’t protest now then ICAI will take them for granted which is not good for any student.

And as far as our feelings as a student are concerned; trust me; they (ICAI officials) don’t bother about it (our feelings) and they will never care about it. We are just machines making money for them, that is all we are.

I agree with Arijit Ghose and Neha. Especially when the exams have gone well and not even a single exemption. I had posted a detailed article on sharing our views of  exam marks that the students community should unite and place their opinion to the Institute. If there is any forum to put forth our views to the Inst let me know. Also is it true that passing percentage in each subject has been raised to 50% ? All the students who are affected by Nov 2009 exams should insist on obtaining copy of their answer sheets from the Inst. They should submit for reevaluation if their exams have gone well. Students get demoralised and lose interest to pick up the same books and study. Pls let me know the procedure for rechecking. I doubt whether rechecking would change atleast some of the results. I have lost interest to sit for more attempts.
