I want to know whether the dividend income received by an individual from the companies incorporated in the countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Sri Lanka is taxable in India. If the dividend is taxable here in India, what is rate of tax? and also I would like to know whether it is possible to take credit of the amount already deducted as withholding tax in these countries while distribution of dividend. Please guide me in this regard. Also guide me how the answer for this question would differ if the recipient is a limited public company.

as per sec. 10(33)/(34)Dividend from domestic co.located in india.
but not dividend received from overseas company.
hence dividend is chargeable.
For Indian Company there is new sec 115BBD inserted by finace Act 2011 wherein the tax @ 15% shall be charged on such dividend income.
Individual is taxed on whole dividend income.
For individual and Indian Company the benifit of tax witheld abroad shall be avaialble .
