Quick Summary
This discussion addresses whether a £2 lakh bank transfer from a brother is taxable and requires disclosure in your Income Tax Return (ITR). If the transfer is a gift, it should be disclosed under the exempt income column in your ITR, specifically as a gift exception under Section 56(x)(2). If it's a loan, it's generally not taxable. The key is to correctly identify the nature of the transfer for accurate ITR filing.

What is the cause of the transfer of the amount?

Whether it is gift or loan?

In either case it is not taxable.

Disclosure in ITR depends...

Gift.

then how to disclose
Disclose in exempt income column in ITR
Show it as gift exception of Sec 56(x) 2
