Direct entry doubt

I have registered for IPCC under Direct Entry scheme and planning to attempt the May 2014 exam. The exam eligibility states that 9 months practical training is mandatory which includes 8 months study course. Can you please clarify the following :

1. Is practical training equal to articleship?

2. Should I do articleship for 9 months before atttending the May 2014 exam OR the 9 months means 8 months study course and 1 month articleship
