Difference between annual report and annual return.

Hello,

For academic purpose, It is my question that, 

1) What is basic difference between annual report and annual return? or they denote same.

Annual report consist of directors report' audit report/ audited financials etc. It is for the members & other stakeholders of the company. While annual return is return required to be filled with the ROC as a part of compliance procedure under companies act.
