Transferred to ao - what does this mean / implications

My mother had filed IT returns for the Financial year 2012-2013 a few days back (Feb 23, 2016) after reeiving a compliance notice email (only email). We filed it under Section 142(1) as it was delayed returns and the last date for filing was March 2015.

Now the status has been changed (Feb 26, 2016) to "Transferred to AO". In the details it says ITR transferred out of CPC to jurisdictional assessing officer in income tax office for processing.  Can you please help clarify on

1) Transferred to AO - does this mean you will be called for scrutiny?

2) Or the update is just to tell that the IT AO will process it and not the CPC

3) Does this happen for all delayed filings? The details are all perfect and no refund was requested (Nil tax balance). Only thing is that the filing was delayed. My mother is apprehensive because she thinks she will be called for scrutiny.

Please help.

Transferred to Ao means that now CPC have transferred to your jurisdictional area AO (Assessing Officer) who will be processing return of income which you filed in response to notice u/s 142(1).

thanks sir. so that doesnt necessairly mean that there will be scrutiny right?

Yes correctly.

If you have disclosed all relevant details in the ITR, the A O would summon you to explain the details of certain income for which he or she wants clarification. There is nothing to worry if you have all relevant documents.

belated time barred returns are normaly  not processed by CPC, AO may seek some clarifications regarding income and the reason for non filing of return within the  prescribed time,

I have had the status of Transferred to AO. My CA has taken care of it and now I received a letter from It Office that all is sorted.

Its upto the  submission  of  documents  by  assesee or  representative  to the  satisfaction of the  ITO,  once the  compliance  is  made, they  issue  orders at  every  month  end.
