How to calculate root 10 without scientific calculator?

Hi All,

While doing a problem in AS 12(Government Grants), I need to calculate the Rate of Depreciation using below formula-

Rate of Depreciation=1-(10\sqrt{\,\,}(2.5/10))

i.e. I need to calculate 10th root of 0.25. How do I do this without using Scientific Calculator?

Regards,

Prachi

In CA, our teacher (Sanjay saraf sir, finance guru) use to call 'Dirty Power' if power of any figure is not simply calculated by using simple calculator.

In your case too, 10 is dirty power

How to solve dirty powers:

Step 1: 12 times square root of figure in bracket i.e. .25 in ur case

Step 2: Deduct 1

Step 3: Divide by Power, Divide 10 in ur case

Step 4: Add 1

Step 5: Do x= x=(to be read as multiply & Equal to)...12 times

One more Demo:

(1.07) to the power 2/9

solution: 12 times square root of 1.07 x 2 i.e. of 1.1449

Deduct 1

Divide by 9

Add 1

Do X= 12 times

Result is 1.0151

Hi Abhinandan,

for calculation of Rate of Depreciation=1-(10(2.5/10)), I got following results for your different steps. Is this correct? Also can you explain step 5 in below example?

Step 1: 12 times square root of figure in bracket i.e. .25 in ur case

Solution:: 0.99966160648

Step 2: Deduct 1

Solution:: (-0.00033839352)

Step 3: Divide by Power, Divide 10 in ur case

Solution::(-0.00003383952)

Step4: Add 1

Solution::0.99996616065

Step 5: Do x= x=(to be read as multiply & Equal to)...12 times

Solution :: ????(what should be answer here?)

Answer in step 5 will be 0.87056892679

There is mistake in suggested steps to calculate 1.07^2/9

corrected steps as follow

Step1 - 12 times square root of 1.07

Step 2 - Deduct 1

Step 3 - multiply 2/9

Step 4 - add 1

step 5 - ×=, ×= 12 times

ans will be now 1.0151
