Dear friend Shashi Bhushan

my question is how a printer can act as an independent component?

without the command of computer can a printer do any thing? again what about 5 in one printer where printing, scanning, photocopy , fax & telephone all things are available, then what will be the rate of depreciation?

Thanks

Debashis

Debashishji, some printers like the multifunction ones that have copier and fax in it can also work independently.

Depends on what you treat the item as. What is only a printer cannot work without computer and is an integral part of the computer system @ 60%. In that respect any peripheral that cannot work without drivers installed in a PC are part of the PC.

An all in 1 can be used even without the PC as a xerox machine or a fax. The only functions depending on PC with drivers is scanning and printing. In MY VIEW even if this is the case I would still take it in the computer block as most of them have ability to be remotely connected to a network and can be accessed in the network via a client PC only. finally the essential function is printing and scanning that requires PC. Even Fax requires PC if the faxing job is not a printed output but done through software itself. Essential character of the equipment is printing and that cannot be done without PC.

printer cnt act independetly ...60%...

It was held in the case of Samiran Majumdar that Computer printer shall be elegible for depreciation @ 60% along with computer.

Depreciaton on printer is 60% coz its identity cannot b seperated frm a computer.

15%

15%

Friends printers are actually output unit of computer. Monitor also output unit of computer. Will you provide 15% for monitor, keyboard etc. In early year printers are only output device for computer and not monitor. Monitor came in later stage. Printers are part of computer. So Depreciation on computer is 60%.

60% depreciation along wid computer.........

Depreciation on prinetr will b at the rate of 60% as without computers it wont b of ny use....printer forms the integral part of Computer now a days so it will b regarded as its part only n hence Depreciation at the rate of 60%

thanks to all. query is solved and solution is 60%

Printer is part of computer -  So it should be elegible for depreciation @ 60% alongwith computer.

Can any1 provide full text of any CASE under this topic......????????
