Declaring nre income

Efiling 234 views 4 replies

Hi, I'm an NRI. My income is taxed here in abroad and I sent it to my NRE account in india and doing the fixed deposit.

As the interest earned on NRE fixed deposits is tax free, no TDS is getting deducted in my NRE account.

My question is, while filing the income tax returns in india, do I need to declare this income any where? If yes, in which section of the e-filing should I declare? Thanks

You can declare the interest income (on NRE FD or account) under exempt income; Schedule EI.

Thanks for the response.

But, I could not find this schedule EI section in the incometax india e-filing portal???

Its one of the schedules of IT return you file.

By the way, if your total income earned or accumulated in India is below exempted limit, you need not file ITR.

Ok. Thank you
