Debit note and credit note
if supplier issues credit note for goods returned by me. do I need to issue debit note for the same and upload in the return??

Yes... You can issue Debit note. not mandatory but you must be account the return as debit note (or purchase return).
If You give debit note then You want to show the document details in Your GSTR 1 return.
No need to show transaction details in Your GSTR 1 return
