I submitted my CPT form at the Bangalore ICAI office on 3rd Dec '08 but have not yet recieved any registration number from the Chennai Office.

You should wait for 20-30 days. If it will not come, then you have to contact Bangalore ICAI Branch.

Deep On The Safer Side Give Them A Call Because Somitime They Misplace It, I Knew This Because It Happened In My PE-I Exam I Receivd The Hall Ticket After Exams Are Over..
