Cpe hours requirement

Hii All,

I have registered as a member of ICAI without COP in the month of April,2013. And , I have received a letter from ICAI that 45 hours CPE hours are Required for a slab of 01-01-11 to 31-12-13 and as the period is ending on 31-12-13 so u r required to complete 45 hours credit upto 31-12-13 otherwise your name will be hosted on the website for not completing the hours.

I want to know that I have not completed even 1 year of registration as member, then whether its required for me to complete these 45 hours of CPE before 31-12-13 or not...????

Dear Nidhi

I also have been registered as member from August 2013 and I too have the same doubt but no letter received from Institute. But to clear the doubt I send a mail to ICAI seeking clarification on whether I have to comply with the CPE Credit hours in the first year of membership. I got reply from the institute as follows

"Dear Member,

In first calendar year of getting membership, cpe compliance is not mandatory. Hence, you are exempted in calendar year 2013. Comply cpe guidelines in next block of three years."

I think you too can seek clarification from the institute for the issue by sending a mail

Hi,

I am K.Viswanath (aged < 60years) got registered as a Member of ICAI(do not hold COP) in May 2013 and my query is regarding the following matters:

1. Whether compliance of CPE hours i.e., Miminum of 10 hours in the First calender year of getting Membership (not holding COP) is mandatory.

2. When will my block of years for compliance of CPE hours commence.

Please advice as soon as possible.

CPE hours requirement for the block of 3 years (w.e.f., 01-01-2014 to 31-12-2016)

CPE HOURS REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BLOCK PERIOD OF 3 YEARS (1-1-2014 TO 31-
12-2016) TO BE COMPLIED WITH BY DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF MEMBERS
A. All the members (aged less than 60 years) who are holding Certificate of Practice (except all
those members who are residing abroad) are required to:
a) Complete at least 90 CPE credit hours in a rolling period of three-years.
b) Complete minimum 20 CPE credit hours of structured learning in each
calendar year.
C) Out of the 90 CPE Credit Hours as mentioned above, 30 CPE credit hours
can be completed either through Structured or Unstructured learning (as per
Member’s choice).
B. All the members (aged less than 60 years) who are not holding Certificate of Practice and all
the members who are residing abroad (whether holding Certificate of Practice or not) are
required to:
(a) Complete at least 45 CPE credit hours either structured or unstructured
learning (as per Member’s choice) in rolling period of three-years
b) Complete minimum 10 CPE credit hours of either structured or unstructured
learning (as per member’s choice) in each calendar year.
C. All the members (aged 60 years & above) who are holding Certificate of Practice, are
required to:
a) Complete at least an aggregate of 70 CPE credit hours of either Structured or
Unstructured Learning (as per member’s choice) in a rolling period of three
years
b) Complete minimum of 10 CPE credit hours being an aggregate of either
Structured or Unstructured Learning in the first calendar year i.e. 2014.
c) Complete minimum of 20 CPE credit hours being an aggregate of either
Structured or Unstructured Learning (as per member’s choice) in the second
and third calendar years i.e. 2015 & 2016
D. The following class of members are exempted from CPE credit hours requirement:
a. All the members (aged 60 years and above) who are not holding
Certificate of Practice.b. Judges of Supreme Court, High Court and Tribunal
c. Members of Parliament/MLAs/MLCs
d. Governors of States
e. Centre and State Civil Services
f. Entrepreneurs (owners of Business (manufacturing) organizations
other than professional services)
g. Judicial officers
