converting unaccounted money by paying tax
can one put in a large amount of cash in bank, show it as income from 'other sources' or 'pgbp' in the current assessment year, and pay 33% income tax on it?

Not possible without justification of business or other income transactions.
That is the reason section 269ST inserted !!!
