Contacting JAO for wrong challan head correction

Forum members, need your help on an issue.

I filed my self assessment tax under wrong head of 115TD instead of head 300. I am not able to rectify this challan on the income tax portal as it is filed under 115TD which cannot be rectified from the portal.

I raised a greivance 3 months ago to correct the challan, but have not got any response. Portal suggests me to contact JAO for this correction. From know your AO page, I got the ward, and email id of the AO office.

What should be the next step, should I drop an email and wait for the response ? Or do I need to go and meet AO? Whom should I meet?

Drop and email and mark the tax demand management system email id in cc.

once done, then raise grievance stating that the same is pending with ao for correction

Hi ,

I also have similar problem. Advance tax paid in Sep 2024 but mistakenly selected AY as 2024-25. Now while filing this year , it is not available as Tax credit.

Is it file ITR for current year and when demand is sent then raise greivance? Is it possible to file rectification on filed ITR.

Trying all the above methods is futile.

That is personal experience.

My relative entered wrong Advance tax date [ only month was mistake, year and day was correct ]

Got a demand notice for this [already paid ] tax after 3 years. Struggled to get the issue corrected for two more years. No Go. 6th year one more notice asking for accepting the tax demand with interest and on acceptance, it would be adjusted from the Refund due that 6th year.

Since I T Department staff have infinite time to drag on things and we do not, my relative accepted and got some refund. He basically paid same tax twice. But he got rid of the 6 year old headache.
