how can i identify by seeing a gstn number whether he is a composition dealer or a regular dealer.

check in gst site under search by taxpayer tab using gst no.
There is no different pattern of gstn for composition dealers. only by seeing gstn, it can not be identified. you have to check only on site.
search on portal by providing GST no you will be displayed regular or composite .
