Quick Summary
Users are encountering a 'Compile error in hidden module: Sheet1' when entering data into the ITR 5 Excel utility, despite trying common solutions like unblocking files and clearing temporary files. While other ITR utilities (2, 3, 4) work fine, this specific error persists for ITR 5, even after a quick repair of MS Office. The issue may relate to corrupted Excel control caches or macro blockages specific to this utility.

The "Compile error in hidden module: Sheet1" error in the ITR utility stems from corrupted Excel control caches or macro blockages. To resolve it, unblock the file in its properties window, clear out temporary .exd files from your %appdata%\Microsoft\Forms directory, and verify your Windows regional format matches standard English layouts.

I have completed the above suggestions but no .exd file was found. Even after that it is still giving the same error only for ITR 5 utility. Rest all utilities ITR 2,3,4 are running fine. In fact I quick repaired the ms office version.

Dear All,

Was anyone able to create JSON file using the Latest EXCEL UTILITY released by ITD (Version 1.0 and Version 1.1).

I think there are error in the Utility itself which do not allow to validate sheets and generate JSON file.  The Speficic error is in the Column-4A of Schedule BP. The Value for this Column getting changed from ZERO (Numerical value) to #NAME? once the utility do auto calcuation upon data entry in the Part-A General information itself.

Due to this error, DATA VALUE of all the colum of vairous sheets which requires to compute the Total income getting changed from ZERO (Numerical Value) to #NAME?

I have wrote about it to ITD but they replied that this may be due to TECHNICAL ERROR in my system.  Whereas, I had tried in Difference Desktops and Laptops as well as different version of Excel, but error still persists. All other ITR (1,2,3,4) are working fine in my desktop.

So, If any one managed to validate the sheets and generated JSON file using the ITR-5 EXCEL UTILITY for the AY 2026-2027, please comment here with their expereince on using the said Utility.

Even I am facing the error #NAME? exactly at 4a in BP. I have tried using the excel utility on 2 different laptops and still the same error on both. I have tried multiple scenarios too, marking Y to all sections "HOME" sheet, marking selected sections only, etc. but no luck. Time is running by, but the error is from the department end that has created this excel utility and not from the user end. If you and anyone was able to find the solutions, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Same Error
kindly post here as when the Error is Resolved

Dear All

As I have highlighted earlier, the excel utilities created by INFOSYS for CPC must use Excel2021 or later [ MS Office 2021 or later ].

Excel 2019 is unsuitable

I have purchased office 365 now just for this but still having the same error

I have successfully resolved this issue. Even the CPC team could not help me out on this. My computer is a 64 bit one and the ms office 365(earlier version was office 2019 and this utility only works on office 2021 and above ) was in 32 bit. I simply uninstalled the office software and again installed a 64 bit version. It started to work. Hopefully everyone else finds this helpful. Happy filing.

@ Srinivas Senapati and all other sufferers.

This is excatly what I had mentioned even in Month of June, when I started checking the ITR-1 excel utility released at the time.

The Excel Utilities for AY2025-26, and AY2026-27[Present AY] are suitable for MS Windows 10 64 Bit and MSOffice 2021 or Later 64Bit, The Trust Center Setting must show VBA Macro , not Macro.

Do not believe what IT Portal help says about using Excel 2016 etc etc.

Anyone using MS Office 365 must check that the Excel running in it is showing VBA Macro while setting up the Trust Center
