Mr. Jayarajasekhar,
This is quite a strange question. VAT was introduced in Indian states w.e.f. 1st April,2005.Earlier each state had their own Sales Tax laws. Your area was in Bihar state in 1998. So think of filing returns after Chattisgarh was formed only. Forget the earlier returns. It is lapsed. You should have taken a new registration under Chattisgarh VAT Act. First do it,get the TIN no.and then file all the returns as per your vat law.If some taxes are also due to be paid then huge amount of interest and penalty acrue.Better go to a consultant to bring your vat laibility uptodate......MJK
