Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies how to calculate the capital gains tax on listed shares bought in 1980 and sold recently. The key point is using the Fair Market Value (FMV) as of 31st January 2018 as the cost of acquisition for Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) under Section 112A of the Income Tax Act. Indexation plays a crucial role in this calculation.

Take FMV as on 31.01.2018 as COA for calculation of LTCG u/s. 112A of IT act.....

Indexation is important.
