Capital Asset written off

in case of an individual writing off an investment (appearing in his balance sheet as shares, held as an asset). Is there a tax benefit in doing so - this being a capital asset written off, is there a benefit of a carry forward loss or something like that.

You cannot write off shares, you have to pay capital gains tax on sale of shares
