ICICI Bank, India’s second-largest Bank, announced on Friday 19 December 2008 that Deputy Managing Director Ms. Chanda Kochar would succeed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K.V. Kamath who will retire in April 2009. The appointment will come into effect from May 1, 2009 after the retirement of Kamath, who is CEO of the Bank since 1996 will become non-executive chairman replacing N. Vaghul after his retirement.
Ms. Chanda D. Kochar holds a degree in cost and works accountancy from the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India and also holds a management degree from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. She started her career with ICICI in the year 1984 as a management trainee and has worked in various areas of banking viz. corporate credit, infrastructure financing, e-commerce, strategy and retail finance. In the year 2000 she has been designated as a Senior General Manager. In early 2001, she was appointed as an Executive Director and in the year 2006, she was made Deputy Managing Director of ICICI Bank. Currently she is responsible for international as well as wholesale banking. She sets an example in the corporate world of being a woman leading India’s largest private sector bank.
