Believe in yourself - what does it actually mean?

Can anybody help me know what is the true meaning of the saying - Believe in yourself?

Does it mean self confidence or, what we does not believe us? It is not clear to me.

Please help.

I will pass the exam - is Belief.

I can pass the exam - Confidence

Only i can pass the exam - Over confidence.

This is my understanding.

BELEIVE IN YOURSELF:

According to my understanding it means to have Strong Faith in ones Abilities to overcome or handle any challenging situation..

Thee three motivational words are often told to us by people when we lose faith in our abilities to overcome faliure and we lose hope.
