If u are writing both groups refer Manoharan
In case you are writing only one group buy Manoharan/Singhania/Ahuja.

For preparation of Income tax for PE-II Exam for may exam ASST. year 2006-2007 is very much applicable moreover new amendments like 80C , removal of standard deduction etc. should be seen before paper and best book is Ahuja in case u r preparing for both groups if u r preparing for one group then go for sighannia.

obviously it should only be assessment year 2006-07.... or simply jus buy the latest edition of Income Tax Act, 1961 of vinod singhania (the best) or t.n.manoharan (theory is cool).... and jus follow it... as simple as that...
