Quick Summary
To terminate your ICAI articleship before completing the full term, you generally need a valid reason such as medical issues, parental relocation, or non-payment of stipend. You must obtain prior permission from ICAI by applying through the SSP Portal, providing documentary evidence and a formal request letter. The approval depends on the years of articleship completed and the justification provided.

To terminate your articleship in the 2nd or 3rd year, you must have a valid reason (like medical issues, parental transfer, or marriage). Log into the ICAI SSP Portal, go to Article Functions, and submit an application for transfer along with supporting documentary evidence (such as a medical certificate or relocation proof) and a formal request letter to seek ICAI's prior approval.

Whether the transfer/termination can be allowed depends upon the number of years you have completed in articleship. Generally, if you are in your first year, the transfer can be allowed with no or few conditions. However, if you have completed the first year, the transfer is allowed by ICAI only on grounds such as transfer of parents, non-payment of stipend, illness/medical condition, relocation, industrial training, etc.

If any of the valid grounds exist in your case, you need to get permission from your principal and send the relevant proofs/ documents and application (Form 109) to ICAI through the SSP portal. You are also advised to obtain prior approval of ICAI before applying for transfer/termination.

Kindly mention how much you have completed in articleship and for what reason you wish to get transferred so that the same can be explained further.
