IT IS APPARENTLY TRUE THAT YOU MAY FACE PROBLEM IN YOUR FINALS...BUT THERE ARE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN BIG FOUR..SO IT ALL DEPENDS ON TIME MANAGEMENT...AND SACRIFICING SOME UNPRODUCTIVE WORK WHICH YOU ENJOY IN UR LEASURE PERIOD..

I WOULD SUGGEST U TO JOIN A MEDIUM FIRM...INSTEAD OF BIG 4....COS I HAVE HEARD THAT THEY PUT AN ARTICLE IN A PARTICULAR AREA...

UR KNOWLEDGE MAY GET LIMITED TO THOSE AREAS ONLY...

BOTTOM LINE WILL BE UR OWN DECISION...

prefer midsize firm .it will beneficial to u.

is it true that if we get posted there we will get specialisation only in a particular area?

dont we able to get knowledge in other important areas...?

i told that i heard it from others...but never met a person who is working in big4...

recently one of my friend has ranked 14th in his inter ...still he joined a mediocore firm...

why i am saying u to join the latter class is b,cos of my seniors....

and the 14th ranker..

As far as the big 4 firms are concerned u wil be placed and u wil be assigned only to a particular dept for all the 3 yrs of articleship period. Whereas medium firm u can gain knowledge in all the areas and u can directly interact with clients and partners.

This is the first and foremost suggestion which is given by many of the students and my friends too..

• Work is fantastic. You will become expert in your interested area(s) within few months.
• Workload is heavy but only initial months. Once you get the grip you will enjoy.
• You are paid in package (taking my example, E&Y)
• You are NOT confined to one particular area. It is false. Your CA at appropriate time shall allow you to change.
• YOUR LIFE IS SET :)

Doing articleship in Big 4 does not affect your final performance in any manner if

1. You manage your time properly.

2. Be a smart worker to finish work faster.

3. Dont be over enthusiastic for people may exploit you.

4. last but not the least, plan your studies well before.

I did my articleship in Big 4. It is not true that you will be confined to one area only. It depends on the place where you are. But yes, you have to stretch your working hours a bit. But the exposure level will be good.

I know many  Big 4 friends who have cleared final in one attempt with the stipulated leave period also.

At last, the ball is in your court my dear. 

you will have to decide based on all the opinions given.

If you have a chance please take it.

Even in small firms, nobody is going to give too much care how you clear your exam

(ITS BASICALLY YOUR HEADACHE).

At least in big 4 they give you your leave credit properly.

Not to mention the better work environs and professionalism.

Guys, me being in EY itself, would want to tell you all humbly that if you are good enough to get into a Big 4 firm, you are good enough to clear your finals.

Perhaps you just have to pay a small cost for cut above the rest. The choice is yours !!

I am in EY.

They have a very good leave policy. So that is not a problem at all.

Work exposure is good.

But I can tell you, you will get exposure only in a particular field and not all (at least this is true in E & Y)

I will give you the divisions in E & Y.

1. Statutory Audit - If you get into this you will do only this.

2. Taxation has 4 divisions :

-Corporate Taxation

-Indirect Taxation

-Transaction Advisory

-Human Mobility Tax (Not sure if this is the coorect name by which they call it)

-International Taxation

You will get placed into one of this tax lines and do only that.

3. Internal Audit (they call is RAS- Risk Advisory Services. I am into this)

They will NEVER let you move to other service line.

WHICH ARE THE TOP 5 FIRMS IN MUMBAI FOR DOING ARTICLESHIP??

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA REQUIRED FOR JOINING THEM? IS IT THE SAME THAT IS NEEDED FOR MEDIOCRE FIRM OR IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE??
