Suppose Mr. X joined articleship after passing IPCC, but he was absent for two months, now he don't want to extend the period of articleship by such time. Can he do so by doing article in sunday or working more than five hours per day ?

Definitely yaar. Total leaves allowed during the period of 3 years of articleship is 180days. So calculate it accordingly how u need to work overtime.
1/7 of total Actual working days is allowed as leave officially ,, and Its matter of Principal and Article.. Principal has right to Extend your Article ship And Sundays wroking and all this are personal..you can not said as official time period..
