Dear Friends, If an individual taxpayer has forgotten his log in password in the incometaxefiling portal and does not have a DSC and also has not filed any ITR electronically before and does not know/remember the email ID mentioned in the Profile field at the time of registration, can he file an application under RTI Act to compel the Department to inform him what is the answer to his hint question stored therein. Can any other individual make an application to obtain the information as a Third Party information under provisions of RTI Act 2005. Regards, Dipjyoti

It is not possible to obtain confidential information through RTI. One may write a letter to AO and seek assistance.

How can it be termed as confidential information. ? It is my password -- I have forgotten and so where is the harm in Dept furnishing the same to me. ? !! Its not thay they are giving my password to some other assessee or indian citizen

Regards,

One's password is a confidential information. The person(s) who will issue a password to you will know your password and that makes you vulnerable.

But RTI replies are open to reading by many people within the dept. There shall be at least two people in the dept to manage RTI replies.
