Prophets are people who are able to see far in to the future, predicting things that would be, though the present gives away no clue.
They foretell ordinary shepherd boys adorning the thrones of emperors; they foresee the blooming of barren lands in to fertile civilisations.
They are able to pull out future from mere nothingness — almost close enough to magic. In the professional world, leaders are the ones who come close to being prophets.
Good leaders are good prophets. They realise that setting high expectations can lead to self-fulfilling propheose expectations come true. They not only predict the future, also make it happen.
They strive to convert these self-fulfilling high expectations to reality to help their people realise their true potential, to motivate them to higher levels of performance and align them to a broader vision.
They help people realise their otential: Most of the time as we go through life , our true tial lies hidden under the of everyday sweat and emotions.
Life revolves around a few chores, and two or three activities — work, and sleep. Events start define , instead of life defining the events.
Many a time this leads us to a place where we lose our real ective, stop seeing life in its totality and start going around in circles. It takes a leader to take us out of this stage, to point to us the true purpose of our lives, so that we stretch ourselves to the bigger goals in life.
Motivate people to higher levels of performance: Leaders are aware that people do not perform at their highest level of performance until motivated.
Leaders unleash self-fulfilling high expectations about talents and instil the confidence to do more with the available resources or stretch more when no resources are available.
They evoke the desire to perform better in life — on a day-to-day basis as well as a longer-term basis.
Align people to a broader vision:
Leaders declare how his people are specially endowed with talents and capabilities that can help them surge towards this seemingly difficult vision.
