respected sir

According to Indian contract act a principal is bound by the acts of the agent , if an agent does any fraud or misrepresentation principal is bound by that , but principal wont be bounded by any liability if the contract entered by the agent exceeds his authority so why would any principal give an agent authority for misrepresentation or fraud and if does wont it be void - ab-initio?
