Try this Read question once, underline key information which you notice. Read question second time and write down all relevant data given on paper. Read 3rd time, focus on what exactly is asked, and write down basic formulae regarding that. try to fit data in formula. Naturally something will be missing, try to analyse how to derive it from data given. This process may seem too time consuming initially, but once you understand the concept, you won't have to do this every time again. Keep the solution handy. Remember that even if you understand one or two questions you may get stuck again because every problem is a different situation. Nevertheless, once you understand basics, you will know how to approach the question. There may be huge chunk of data, so focus should always be on what exactly is asked and his to arrive at inputs of "relevant" formulae.
