If the Equity Shares are held for the purpose of Business, then whether the same are to be shown under the head "Investment" or under the head "Closing Stock" (Stock-in trade) ?

If Trading in shares is a business activity, then it is to be shown as closing stock.
It depends if you are holding shares as stock in trade then you need to have seperate company whatsoever.
You can also have investment in recognised stock exchange.
As a Closing Inventory (Stock in Trade) If object or business activity is Trading in stocks and shares
