80ddb related questions

Hi,

I've spend more than Rs.60000 for my mother aged 61 for Chemotherapies(Oncology) Hospitalizations in Bangalore(Private Hospital).

   I've few questions:

1) Can I claim this amount for exemption under 80 DDB?

2) Senior Citizen is said to be of Age 65 in some sources? Some sources say 60? Which is correct?

3) Can my employer do this at source? Or Should I do it while filing returns.(Not clear as different sites say different things)

4) As the treatment was given in Private Hospital, Am I eligible to claim it?

Some sites say It can do only if the government hospital doesn't have the specified specialist

  (oncologist) appointed.

How can I verify this? This doesn't seem to be feasible.

If there are any points which I need to keep in mind apart from the above, please let me know.

1.  Yes you can claim deduction under Section 80DDB Rs 60000 or actual incurred whichever is less.

2. Senior citizen age is 60 with effect from F.Y. 2012-13. onwards. Before that it was 65.

3.This deduction can not be allowed by DDO(employer) while calculating the TDS amount .So assessee have to apply for claim this deduction while filing his return in Income tax tax department.

4. Yes you can claim however a certificate in orescribed from (Form no 10-I) from an oncologist must be furnished who is working in government hospital.
