10 things you must ask yourself before doing an MBA

Are job and salary the only things, we think before planning for an MBA?? Then think again. Probably you are not making the right kind of choice. MBA as a course is not about sitting in an AC office after your placements, with a chauffer driven car, and a secretary. It is about the hard sweat and dust that you will face in the market.

Often because of parents, friends and relatives pushing us, we get into an MBA and therefore dragging our lives unnecessarily. At some point, many of us feel that probably, that was not what we were meant to. We were not meant to be managers, but to be a researcher, or be a historian or a musician or music director. Your decision should be taken now, and not after you have done your MBA. It saves your efforts, for 2 years, in many ways.

There is a list of ten questions, that you must ask yourself, before doing an MBA. They are:

1. Why do you want to do an MBA?

2. Have your parents, relatives or friends push you to do a MBA?

3. Are you self motivated to do an MBA?

4. What do you wish to do, at the end of your course?

5. What are your long term goals?

6. With which specialization you wish to study?

7. Why does that interest you?

8. Did you find out the myths and realities surrounding MBA study?

9. If you had not done an MBA, what would you have done?

10. What is that "thing", that interests you most in life?

When you have an answer to all these questions, you will have clarity, on what you want to get from life. Although, quite often we force or drag ourselves into MBA, it is time to rethink. One single most reason is that, it is probably the last bit of formal education for most of us. Answer all the questions, and see if you can do something you like. Then it would be called a career, otherwise you would never be satisfied, with what you do.
