TERRY COLLEGE of BUSINESS - MBA

Founded in 1912, Terry College of Business is the oldest business school in Georgia and one of the oldest in the United States. Specializing in risk management/insurance and real estate, the school, recently announced the replacement of its evening MBA program with an exhilarating and exciting new course – a professional MBA program. Terry College has proposed to accelerate the schedule and focus on personal leadership development. The fully-equipped teaching facilities in Atlanta, Griffin and Gwinnet County are in addition to the invigorating Athens campus right in the heart of the Mediterranean.  The Insurance/Risk Management department is ranked as second in the United States while Real Estate occupies #3. Labeled as a “Best Buy” program by The Financial Times of London, it is undoubtedly, one of the best in the world.

The Curriculum-

The full time Masters in Business Administration curriculum abides by the traditional business school model in which the first year is usually fraught with essential classes like developing leadership skills, accounting , economics, business statistics, management information systems to name a few. Minimum requirement for completing the first year include 25.5 credit hours of the given curriculum in addition to 3 credit hours of elective subjects. Focus on leadership skills development is what makes a MBA degree from Terry College unique.

In the second year, a student is free to focus on his or her specialty area. Students are provided a choice of 12 elective subjects such as Entrepreneurship, Real Estate, Risk management and Insurance, Marketing Management and Investments. The “tips and tricks” provided in the MBA P.L.U.S seminars, which detail the nitty-gritty aspects of being an excellent manager, are simply overwhelming. Every elective has a state of art institute dedicated to it which provides students with a unique pedagogical experience.

In addition to the two mainstream programs, Terry College, in association with UGA Law School provides a powerful combination of a law degree and advanced business knowledge. Usually, the first year is spent in law school and the second year is for the mainstream coursework of the MBA program. For the final two years, students are jointly enrolled in both institutes to complete the dual degree.

Admission pre-requisites and selection criteria-

A very selective admission procedure requires you to create a MyTerry MBA Account online. Once the online registration is completed, you will need to fill in the online application. A complete application will also include at least two letters of recommendation and also the official documents from each educational institute attended. Optionally, you can request a brochure and attend an “Information Session”.  Applicants are also required to submit their GMAT scores which should not be more than 5 years old. TOEFL or IELTS scores, if applicable, can be submitted. After a preliminary round of reviews of applications, students are invited for an evaluate interview to complete the admission procedure. Additional requirements include a work experience of minimum of two years after graduation.

Though any knowledge of coursework is not a prerequisite, exceptional mathematical skills and computer proficiency are required.

The fee-structure (tuition fees) for the academic year 2009-2010 is $61520 for the Two-year program and $46140 for the eleven month program. Roughly a fourth of full-time MBA students are remunerated with scholarships which range from $500-$12500. Additional fees includes a PreMBA Coursework fee of $275 and a one-time fee of $500 for the MBA program seat.
