Rat Snake is probably the fastest snake of India. Its swift movement, size and color (there are many shades of color, dark gray to yellow or brown). Mostly, its mistaken as female cobra, as its size and color are similar to the cobras. I am sure most of you know the consequences of a snake that is sighted by humans. It’s a non-venomous snake and harmless, which is hard for common man to believe, as they consider a dark looking large snake as venomous.
Rat snakes are large, which grow to a length of 2 ½ meters or more, found wherever rats and frogs/toads are prevalent. So, they are often found in rice fields and in human habitation
