Meet The Toppers

Inspirational Merit List of November 2010 CA Final Exams!

With the extreme speculation about the results of CA Examination held in November 2010, ICAI announced a fair pass percentage of 10.79% in CA Final Course and 9.33% in CA Final (New Course). Comparing it with the results of May 2010, which went as low as 3.46% in CA Final Course and 6.56% in CA Final (New Course), November 2010 results looks quite satisfactory.

The argument still continues as to why CA pass percentage remains so low and the discussions at CAclubindia Forum gives us an insight of what might be the probable reasons.

There is something very inspiring about all the toppers of November 2010 CA Final Exams. Dimpy Jindal, CA Final (New Course) 1st rank holder was also a topper of PCC Exams held in Nov 2008 and 7th rank holder of CPT Exams held in Nov 2006.

Sujay K.N. and Nitin Gupta have bagged the 1st rank for themselves in CA Final Course, November 2010 after two and one unsuccessful attempts respectively.

We interviewed the toppers and tried to figure out what made them stand out in the CA Final Exams held in November 2010.

imgFrom a very modest agricultural background and with the determination to achieve what he has aspired for makes him the most inspirational merit holder of November 2010 CA examination.

“I had come to Bengaluru from a small town in Karnataka, completed my graduation and then decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy course and do my practical training along with coaching from bengaluru only. It is not easy to stay away from your family and pursue such rigorous course. As this was my third attempt, after the unsuccessful Mission Nov’09 & May’10, there were times I felt I couldn’t do this anymore. Going through the same books again and again, solving the same problems repeatedly and still not clearing my exams increased my frustration at times. I needed moral and emotional support every now and then; my family was the only source of it. I couldn’t be there with them but whenever I felt low and uninspired I use to call them up and discuss my problems. My parents were very kind and never pressurized me for anything.”

“I took coaching for all the subjects and use to manage my timings with the training so that neither suffered. Coaching is not a very necessary aspect I believe but because articleship has to go hand in hand its quite useful if one is acquainted with the subject matter. Study Material, Coaching Notes and Reference Books can surely give a fair idea about the subject matter therefore one need out follow the herd and decide for themselves whether they actually need coaching or not”

“Online Coaching could play a vital role in today’s education system especially in Chartered Accountancy Course where students need to attend college as well as practical training. Best faculties from anywhere in India will be available for students even in remote areas of the country.”

“Speaking about Practical Training which is compulsory for CA students, I suggest students to take this very seriously and not go for dummy articleship or any malpractices of such sort. Only practical training can teach you to inter link different sections and case laws in Legal, Taxation matters. A thorough insight on taxation, legal and audit matters can be acquired with the practical training.

“Where was I going wrong? I was covering the entire syllabus; I knew the page nos. with respective content by now, then what was the mistake? I needed answers to the above questions and concluded to concentrate on a different aspect in this attempt. I worked on my presentation by thoroughly going through the Suggested Answers, Practice Manual, Study Material and Compilations. I also found that while writing in my examination I couldn’t connect the sections in law and tax papers because of which I scored very less in these papers. For better understanding I also tried solving Practice Manual of new course for relevant chapters in old course. While preparing for your exams the number of hours does not count, what actually counts are the effectiveness, efficiency and capacity of handling pressure both mentally and physically.”

“Just before the examination day I flipped through the entire syllabus at least once so that I could recall every small point of the subject. Students usually neglect the theory part in practical subjects. I would suggest them not to understate the theory questions as these can actually give you a good score. Allocate your time question wise during examination, this will help you finish your paper on time and devote equal attention to all questions”

“If suggested answers could be published just a week after the exams get over, this could really help the students figure out their mistakes. Also if a broad guideline on evaluation could be published by the ICAI, students could fair better in exams.”

“My Mission from here is yet to be decided. There are options like teaching, practicing, getting into the industry or continuing further studies. Few aspects on which I still need to work on are the soft skills like communication, personality development as these take you a long way in your career. I’m still confused but will surely figure out soon the road I would like to venture on.”

The words of Swami Vivekananda "You are the creator of your destiny" and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam "Dream is not what you see in sleep, It is the thing which does not let you sleep" have always kept me motivated.

We hope and wish that he would make a big difference to this professional fraternity by his simplicity and determination.
