Section - 11 - Establishment of Authority
CHAPTER IVUNIQUE IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY OF INDIAEstablishment of Authority.
11. (1) The Central Government shall, by notification, establish an Authority to be known as the Unique Identification Authority of India to be responsible for the processes of enrolment and authentication and perform such other functions assigned to it under this Act.(2) The Authority shall be a body corporate by the name aforesaid, having perpetual succession and a common seal, with power, subject to the provisions of this Act, to acquire, hold and dispose of property, both movable and immovable, and to contract, and shall, by the said name, sue or be sued.(3) The head office of the Authority shall be in New Delhi.(4) The Authority may, with the prior approval of the Central Government, establish its offices at other places in India.

S.O. 2357(E) [F.No.13012/64/2016/Legal/UIDAI], Dated 12-7-2016. - In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 1 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (18 of 2016), the Central Government hereby appoints the 12th day of July, 2016, as the date on which the provisions of sections 11 to 20, 22 to 23 and sections 48 to 59 of the said Act shall come into force.
