From the day GST has come into effect, so many changes have been made by the GST council. However, neither the council nor the common man is sure how many changes are yet to come till the time we are totally used to it. But, since the time of its inception, Congress is claiming that GST is a failure and that once they again get a hold of the central governing body of India, everything about GST will change.

The question now arises is that is it so easy to change GST rate list? For this, you first need to understand if this is a government oriented thing or is this for a common man’s perspective. To start with, let us read about the basic definition of GST.

What exactly is GST?

GST is a consumption based tax levied on sale, manufacture, and consumption of goods & services at a national level. It is a substitute for all indirect taxes that existed earlier. The present tax is divided between state and central government. However, new GST rates India comprises of:

  • Central GST (CGST) levied by Centre

  • State GST (SGST) levied by State

  • Integrated GST (IGST) – levied by Central Government on the inter-State supply of goods and services.

Why does Congress Government think they can change GST rules?

Be it about GST or any other changes brought in by any ruling government, it is quite obvious that the opposition discards it - among themselves and mainly in front of the public. Similarly, even if there are some pros and cons of GST, Congress is using it against BJP. GST was brought in favor of the public. However, because this is something very new for the public as well as the controllers to handle and implement, it will take time to get into practice. This new tax regime has already created a buzz in the market as everyone is now supposed to give their share of tax. No one in the middle can get away with free service. But, political parties do not talk about logics and try to allure the public with all the negatives creates after GST.

India being a democratic country gives people the chance to choose their representative. But sometimes even politicians forget it and try to misuse the power to speech and talk against every new step taken by the government. Maybe because it is kind of war where one government is always fighting against the other to prove itself better than the other. However, as a common man, you have to think logically and understand even if the ruling government changes, the functioning of GST rates in india is still good for us.

The bottom line of this tax regime is that this has divided the tax between state and central very clearly. Now, even a child can understand how much tax he/she has paid for shopping. The changes on a very basic level can be seen by noticing that now everyone can understand the bills he/she has paid. Coming back to point and possibility of changes if new government changes, anything can happen.
