Its costly coz people can adopt the piracy and go for the pirated versions....!!!!

for example 10 softwares sold @ 10000Rs. and pirated sold 1000 @ 100Rs.

Switch over from Tally to Busywin (Free version or paid version starts from 3,600/+ tax  to 9000+tax for single user) which is better then Tally for SME and Individuals..

Busywin is devloped by Busy Infotech (No. 2 after Tally)

They also provide tools to convert you old data in Tally to Busywin.

Good news. I am very happy to inform that we will be getting the Quickbooks for India very soon. At present Intuit released the beta version of Online Edition of Quickbooks for testing purpose. I have throughly checked the each & every module and found that it can be used for Indian Book Keeping. It has the features of TDS, VAT & Service Tax.

I think Tally should introduced alternate optional UI may be menu driven or Ribbon UI like in Office-2007+.

I was using Tally than I shifted to busy now I am using Marg.
As per my comparison, I can defined it in few requirement.

1 Speed :-
Busy & tally are very slow in speed, after july month when i generate 8-10 thousnd bills its almost take 30 second to 1 minute to save bill on lan network. I found Marg software 8-10 times faster than busy and tallt, Marg also get slow on lan when i generate more than 3 lakhs bill, but maximum it will take 10-15 second for 500 item purchase bill after a huge database.

2 Realtime Inventory :-
I had faced problems in busy & tally software in multi user, they will alert me stock is going negative at the time of bill saving but no provision at the time of item selection eg if i had 5 pcs stock of x item, all operator get it in bill and alerts only at the time of bill saving.
In marg if any operator pick 3 pcs than 2nd operator get only 2 pcs at same time if first operator cancle that bill or item than only 2nd will get all the 5 immediately.
Thats why busy & tally are failed in multiuser and Marg is pass.

3 Data Security :-
In Busy data corruption is very high, for small or midsize users (who are using upto 20 computer) busy use access database. That is very poor database (everybody even company know it), it will corrupt frequently when computer shutdown on power failure. For big users busy use sql database but its so costly database and highend computers & highly infra required to maintain this and power failure should be required totaly controlled to use sql.
Tally and Marg use its own database, data failure is there but as comparison of busy its 2-3%.
You can get password of access & sql very easily with utilities available on net, any operator can change your data in busy but tally and marg is 100% secure, know one can change it outside the software.

4 Software as per my busness :-
Tally is very general software, but limited customized is posible by tally development partners but it will cost very high ie for a small need of retail & tax invoice series separately I was asked for 20000 ₹ extra. But you cant customized like bill broker/salesman selection on party/series/area/company based.
Busy is also a very general inventory software, good for starters. Very limited customized by company only.
Marg is very advance inventory management software. Its 1500+ setups make it software as per my need. I can develop my own reports with little bit knowledge, 3rd party reports and options can developed, self printing formates are very advance.
My friends from jeweller, chemist, fmcg, garmentare, pharma distributor,mandi adhati, kirana shop are using Marg for there business. They all said Marg is specilised for there business, but friends how are uaing Busy & Tally are adjustimg with software.

5 Accounting :-
If only debit, credit & vat return concerned all are good, if you want more than Marg is 10 times better than any software, features which cant be compared eg Taging advance Payment Collection system, Post Dated Cheque and Advance Cheque management, Outstanding Analysis, 7 different type of accounting entry system, balances always available on screen, etc

6 Sales Reports & MIS :-
Tally and Busy are very less reports and as MIS concerned, I never get profit reports Item, Area, Headquarter, Company, Salesman, Bill, Month, Operator, etc wise I got all these reports in Marg. Marg report manager have 1000's of sales and proft reports. If we talk about stock report we can get it with 25 different selection in Marg eg stock report of x,y,z company + mrp between 10-15₹ + purchase disc between 3-5% + rack no start with CZW + etc but in busy & tally simple report is there.

7 Support :-
Tally & Busy provide telephonic support, there sales team have very less knowledge. Company sale boxes to master partners than partners sale to hardware shops or resalers they just sale you box and all other responsibility are taken by the company. Company support centers are good but all the support on phone cant be posible.
In Marg, there sales field team is very knowledgeable, they know all the software and customized Marg as per my requirement. I never required to call at company support center, I heard about it, its very advance and strog.

8 Price :-
Marg is very economical. If we compair multiuser busy is 3 times and tally is 5 times costly than Marg.

This is my personal comments, I don't know more about quickbook but I know Indian market is very tuf, if these big players cant understand indian business than how can usa based software.
