Which branch to choose for articleship

By which banch - what do u mean ?

stat audit,direct tax,indirect tax,internal audit etc

@ Krati: Go for Internal Audit, as it covers almost all aspects of the company. You can be taken through many of the comapny's transactions if you are involved in internal audit work. Stat Audit is done only for a short period, you will not get much time to learn from this when compared to internal audit. Let others too comment.

taxation and audit                         

Go For Internal Audit as you gets knowledge of various industries like pharma, chemical, service industry etc

And it will be better if you want to go in industry. But if you want to go into practise then you should go for stat audit or taxation.
