my daughter is studying in college and residing in College Hostel. Does hostel fees form part of tuition fees. Is it eligible for deduction. As per definition of tuition fees any expenditure incurred for full time education is part of tuition fees

Hostel fees is not allowed. Only tuition fees is allowed.

and may i know, how much amount u r paying as tuition fees.,

hi Kamal ,

As per the definition any expenditure incurred towards the tution fee is eligible for deduction i.e., in the form of library fee, laboratory fee as such and not the expenditure of hostel and accommodation.

Thank U

KRISHNA

Only tuition fees only allowed not for other fees included

Mr.Kamal

As per IT Act

sec 80 C -  as tuition fees (excluding any payment towards any development fees or donation or payment of similar nature), whether at the time of admission or thereafter,

(a) to any university, college, school or other educational institution situated within India;

(b) for the purpose of full-time education of any of the persons specified in sub-section (4);

Reading the Act plainly may tempt us to claim but I don't think hostel fees paid will be eligible.....

Only tuition fees is allowed, not hostel fees

only tution fee is allowed for deduction but not hosttal fee

HOSTEL FEES IS NOT ALLOWED AS DEDUCTION ..........

hostel expenses is not allowed.............. as deduction
