Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies the tax implications of receiving a monetary gift from a father in the UK. According to the Income Tax Act, specifically Section 56(2)(x) read with Section 2(41), gifts received from specified 'relatives' are generally exempt from tax. Therefore, a gift of Rs. 7 lakh from your father is likely to be tax-free.

As per Income Tax Act - Section 2 (41)
“Relative” in relation to an individual, means the husband, wife, brother or sister or any lineal ascendant or descendant of that individual.

And read the above section with (56)2 of income tax act for meaning of relatives.
Exempt
Exempt us 56(2)(x)
